Halfen DEHA has developed an extensive range of Rebar Couplers

Rebar couplers are quick, easy and cost-effective for splicing steel rebar for sizes #4 through #11 in full tension and/or compression applications. As the bolts are tightened, they embed into the rebar and the interior wall of the tube. Screws can be tightened using suitable hand held standard wrenches or pneumatic nut drivers. The heads of the screws shear off at a prescribed tightened torque.

Lapped joints are not always an appropriate means of joining reinforcing bars. They can be time consuming in terms of design and installation and can lead to greater congestion within the concrete. Halfen rebar couplers can simplify the design and construction of reinforced concrete, and reduce the amount of reinforcement being used.

Unlike mechanical splices, lapped joints are dependent upon the concrete in which they are located, for load transfer. Any degradation in the integrity of the concrete could significantly effect the performance of the joint. The strength of a mechanical splice is independent of the concrete and remains unaffected by any loss of cover which may accur as a result of corrosion or seismic activity.
